Shelagh started Country dancing when she was in Primary school at 6 years old in Wolverhampton. The competitions for schools were held each year and Shelagh participated on several occasions when she was a junior. Her school won some of the awards.
During the war Shelagh was at senior school and there was no dancing. After the war as her parents were involved in Old Time Dancing Shelagh went with them, as did her family – and continued this even taking Bronze, silver and Gold.
Attending evening classes at the local college Shelagh also took ballroom classes and used to go to the student dances.
After her marriage in 1955 and moving to Bridgewater Shelagh did very little dancing as Shelagh was busy with her young children. Shelagh was a guider in the local company for quite a few years and sometimes did dancing with the girls.
In the mid 1960’s they as a family were able to join the local Folk Dance club and then moved to Truro at the end of 1970. Shelagh had however been teaching Keep Fit since 1963 in Bridgewater and used dance, including internationals.
Shelagh did some keep fit in Truro and that was when Shelagh first met the Searle’s and they started her with the club at St Paul’s and Shelagh continued from then on.
When John wished to call only every other week in 1989 Bob Bury and Shelagh shared the alternate evenings calling. Since then other callers have come along and now Truro Folk Dance Club have a rota for their callers.
Shelagh passed away on 29th October 2017

Howard joined Truro Folk Dance club in 1980 with his wife Margaret when invited to come along to the Royal British Legion in Truro. The club later moved to Kea Community Hall, Playing Place, Truro in 1990 and has continued there to date.
Howard started calling a few dances within the club and later called at public functions starting in 1993 with a charity dance in a garden in Playing Place, Truro. Howard found public and club calling very rewarding and look forward to every event, the planning stage as well as the function.
Howard was a regular in house club caller and also called at private wedding parties, birthdays and many other social events within Cornwall.
Howard was elected honorary secretary in 1991 for Truro Folk Dance Club and held this position until his resignation in 2016 handing over to Carol Strevens. As secretary Howard organised our annual dinner dance, our club dances and the charity dances sponsored by the Truro Folk Dance Club arranging the booking of visiting bands and callers. Howard took over the running of the New Years Eve dance in 2001.
