A wonderful evening of dance to raise some funds for The Chestnut Appeal. Club callers, Beryl Jukes, Frances Oates, Peter Strevens and Beverley Richards called some lovely dance along with the music from Jig'n Reel. All of whom do not charge for the evening. All monies taken on the door are given to the Charity. Stephanie and Oliver came to say a few words on behalf of The Chestnut Appeal. The Chestnut Appeal was founded in 1999 at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, however they work right across Devon & Cornwall. They believe that every person suffering & affected by Prostate Cancer, Testicular Cancer and Penile Cancer should get the help and support they need, and they will continue to raise funds to pay for the very latest equipment to make treatment of cancers easier, they continue to help fund the work of specialist nurses, they endeavour to develop and help patient led support groups and offer respite free holiday breaks for those recently diagnosed with cancer. Men’s Health suffers from an imbalance, and at the core of our work is highlighting the most common cancer in men; Prostate Cancer. As well as this they also raise awareness of Testicular Cancer and Penile Cancer, two other quite treatable cancers that sadly if left can be devastating. They believe it is vital to get more men talking about their health and taking action when they feel like something could be wrong, and a lot of their time is spent out in the community giving free talks and seminars about these three cancers. Raising awareness of Men’s Cancers is at the heart of everything they do, & they aim to make a marked difference to men’s health across the Devon and Cornwall. More than 52,000 new cases of prostate cancer are diagnosed in the UK every year, that’s 140 men a day yet less than 30% of people know where the prostate gland is, let alone what it does, so a lot of work is still needed. They can only reach their aims when they work together as a community. Over the coming years they aim to improve vital services and do much more in the area, helping reach more of the community. They have a lot to be thankful for, and a huge amount to do in the future to ensure men’s health is continually talked about, that the South West corner of the UK isn’t forgotten about, and that they’re able to attract the very best technologies and treatment to the area.
